Watching Every Star Wars In Order of Release Isn’t The Best Way…

For Kids & Newbies Is This The Best Order To Watch Episodes 1 thru 6???

Vijay Varman has shared some thoughts on Quora about the order newcomers and kids should watch the Star Wars series. Expanding upon an idea dreamed up by film critic / screenwriter Drew McWeeny (aka Moriarty), Varman makes a compelling case for mixing up the order to enrich the experience for those new to a galaxy far, far away…

All the answers given seem to assume that the trilogies have to be watched in order (i.e. 4, 5, 6, – 1, 2, 3 or 1, 2, 3, – 4, 5, 6). However, there is a… better way! To maximise the interest and joy for children they should be watched: 4 – 5 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 6.

I like this idea. Varman goes on to explain that watching Episodes 4 and 5 first maintains the integrity of the original story while keeping the twist of Vader’s reveal to Luke intact. After Episode 5, move on to Episodes 1 – 3 so that viewers can see a young Obi-Wan and Anakin paying off what was set up in Episodes 4 and 5 and adds the benefit of witnessing Palpatine’s ascension to power….

This is a far better and more complex treatment of the character [Palpatine] instead of simply introducing him towards the end of Episode 6.

The article also states that, by having new viewers witness Anakin fall to the dark side, it raises the stakes for Luke in Episode 6 when he finally confronts Vader and the Emperor.
