J.J. Abrams recently took to YouTube to announce the Star Wars Fan Film Awards 2016. Celebrating fan creativity inspired by Star Wars, filmmakers have a chance to make their own short Star Wars film and compete to win merchandise, autographed limited edition prints of Star Wars concept art and, you guessed it, a nifty trophy. Probably the coolest part is that the creative minds behind Lucasfilm will be the judges. Here’s the announcement video…
Filmmakers taking part in the competition are granted access to a sound asset pack of official Star Wars sounds to use in their films. They will be competing for recognition in different award categories including Filmmaker Select, Best Animation, Best Non-Fiction, Spirit of Fandom, Best Comedy, Best Visual Effects and Audience Choice.
The deadline for submissions is 11:59 PST on April 24, 2016. For more contest info, including Judging and Voting Phases, Winner Confirmation and Announcement Periods as well as a list of Do’s and Dont’s visit StarWars.com.
