Darth Maul’s Dark Side Presence Lingers Evermore…
The new Star Wars canon is flourishing and interesting connections have begun to emerge which link the Prequels with the Original Trilogy and The Force Awakens. One of my favorite examples is the new, four-part Star Wars comic series Shattered Empire. The first issue, The Morning After, was released in September and transports us right back into the midst of the Battle of Endor.
This issue goes on to depict events which occurred during the timeframe of the battle but were never depicted onscreen. For example, after the death of Darth Vader, we saw Luke Skywalker escape with his body aboard a Lambda-class Imperial Shuttle but, what happened immediately after the hangar was engulfed in flames? Shara Bey is Green Four, the A-Wing pilot in the above frames, and is the protagonist of the series. Her husband is Sergeant Kes Dameron, a ground troop who fought alongside Han, Leia and Chewbacca on the forest moon of Endor below. This is the first link to The Force Awakens as Shara and Kes are X-Wing ace Poe Dameron’s parents.
Here’s something else about the struggle on Endor before we explore an even better connection. The next day, after the Celebration, the Alliance discovers an Imperial holdout on the far side of the moon and they decide to do something about it to protect their new Ewok allies.
