The good folks over at Nerdist have reported that Benicio Del Toro has finally confirmed recent rumors that he has been cast in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Originally speaking with Rac1.org in a Spanish-language interview, Del Toro revealed when the Rian Johnson-helmed Episode VIII begins principal photography:

“Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out. I think we start shooting in March.”

As for who he will be playing, the actor was predictably vague but offered a small hint as to the nature of his character:

“Ehhh, the thing is, they don’t let me talk too much about it. I’m like the villain. But we’ll see.”

“…like the villain” sure is an interesting way to put it. Does that mean he’ll be a Boba Fett or Jabba the Hutt-type character who isn’t necessarily 100% aligned with the primary villains of the saga but just bad enough to a thorn in the side of our heroes?

Episode VIII has a May 26, 2017 release date but we’ll have plenty of Star Wars on our hands with Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening on December 18, 2015 and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opening on December 16, 2016.
