Boba Fett & His Favored Slave…

ILM’s 1970’s Concept Drawings Are Epic!

These are Art Directors Joe Johnston & Nilo Rodis-Jamero’s drawings from 1978 / ’79. Iconic artist Ralph McQuarrie did contribute to Boba Fett’s design but Joe Johnston is widely credited with creating the look of the iconic bad ass and Nilo Rodis-Jamero with designing Fett’s incredible ship, my favorite starship design from the Original Trilogy, the Slave 1. Click each image for a bigger version.

Originally, George Lucas planned for Darth Vader to be an intergalactic bounty hunter, but when Darth Vader became a fallen Jedi instead, Lucas recycled the “bounty hunter” concept for Boba Fett.

He didn’t socialize. He rarely spoke. None of his bounties ever saw his face. Thus Boba Fett encouraged fearful speculation about his past.

There is no scene put into Star Wars that firmly establishes Owen and Beru’s killer(s). The murders can actually be reasonably deduced as the work of bounty hunter Boba Fett.
